Compare your own query visibility
A Google versus Bing rankings comparison asks how your site performs for similar queries in two engines. It is useful for spotting blind spots: a query may bring visibility in one engine while barely appearing in the other. It is not a general ranking of which search engine is better.
Search audiences and query mixes differ, so compare the same site and query before interpreting a position gap. Read average position carefully: an aggregate position is an observation across impressions, not a fixed rank you can expect on every search.
What mowteng compares
The insights_google_vs_bing tool compares a site's Google and Bing queries, highlighting the biggest position gaps and queries appearing in only one engine. It requires Bing to be connected. Bing data is weekly, so the comparison period is approximate rather than an exact day-for-day match.
Bing Webmaster Tools is an optional, experimental source in mowteng. Connect it from the account page. If it has no sites, follow the guide to importing sites from Search Console into Bing before interpreting an empty result as a search performance problem.
Ask for gaps with context
Compare this site's Google and Bing queries. Show the largest position gaps and state the periods used, including the weekly Bing data caveat.
Which queries appear only in Google or only in Bing in this comparison? Show available impressions and clicks, and explain what an absent row cannot prove.
Investigate the engine with weaker visibility
Start with queries that matter to your audience and have enough impressions to warrant attention. Check whether the intended landing page is accessible and whether the engine can discover it. A query absent from returned data does not, by itself, establish that the page is unindexed or never ranks there.
Use bing_crawl_issues to review URLs Bingbot had trouble crawling, including HTTP codes and issue types. Check sitemap health as another discovery clue. For Google, inspect the landing URL when indexing is in doubt. Prioritize a concrete technical or content issue over trying to force equal positions in both engines.
Compare reports by hand
Open the site's search performance reports in Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Export query rows, choose the closest available reporting windows, and match query text in a spreadsheet. Keep unmatched queries separate from matched queries with position differences. Label date mismatches and low-impression rows so the report does not imply a precision the underlying data cannot support.
