Separate sitemap health from indexing
A sitemap tells search engines about URLs you want them to discover. A successfully submitted sitemap does not guarantee every listed page will be indexed. Equally, a page can be discovered through links even if it is absent from a sitemap. Review submission status and individual page status as separate pieces of evidence.
Start with the XML sitemap definition if you are choosing an input file. Check that the file is reachable, parses correctly and lists the canonical URLs you intend search engines to consider, rather than old redirects or intentional exclusions.
What mowteng can retrieve
For Google, gsc_list_sitemaps returns submitted sitemaps with submitted and indexed counts, errors and warnings. Ask for those reported values rather than assuming a count proves every URL is currently indexed. Use URL Inspection when the status of a particular page matters.
bing_list_sitemaps and yandex_list_sitemaps list sitemaps in the optional, experimental Bing and Yandex sources. Connect those sources from the account page. Request the fields each source actually returns and keep unavailable information marked as unavailable; do not expect the engines to provide identical reports.
Questions to find the next check
List this property's Google sitemaps with reported submitted and indexed counts, errors and warnings. Explain which findings need a URL-level inspection.
List sitemaps for the same site in connected Bing and Yandex accounts. Compare submitted sitemap URLs and flag missing or unavailable information.
Fix the file before resubmitting
Check failed fetches against the sitemap's actual address and server response. Review malformed XML, stale paths, redirects and URLs outside the intended site scope. Correct the source that generates the sitemap so the problem does not return on the next publish.
mowteng can submit sitemaps to Google, Bing and Yandex. Submission is a write action, marked so your assistant asks before running it. Follow the sitemap submission guide after the file is corrected. Removing a submitted Google sitemap does not remove pages already indexed. For pages still absent, run an index coverage audit instead of repeatedly resubmitting the same file.
Review sitemaps by hand
Open the sitemap report for the correct Search Console property and review each submitted address, reported status and available errors. Visit the sitemap itself to check the file and a sample of URLs. Repeat in Bing Webmaster Tools and Yandex Webmaster if you use them. Use each engine's page or URL reports to investigate indexing separately from whether the sitemap was accepted.
