Yandex Webmaster HOST_NOT_LOADED

The symptom

You asked your assistant for a Yandex site summary or search queries, and the answer contains HOST_NOT_LOADED. Other tools, such as your Google data, keep working. Yandex is an optional source in mowteng and still experimental.

The cause

HOST_NOT_LOADED is Yandex's own status. It means Yandex has not loaded the data for that site yet. The site must be added and verified in Yandex Webmaster, and Yandex then needs time to process it. mowteng only passes the answer along: it cannot make Yandex load a site faster.

What to check

1. Is the site added and verified? Ask your assistant for your Yandex sites. yandex_list_sites returns each site with its host_id and verification state. A site that is missing or unverified has to be fixed in Yandex Webmaster first; see add a site to Yandex Webmaster.
2. Is it the right host? Yandex treats each host name separately, so https://example.com and https://www.example.com are different sites. Make sure the host_id you query is the one you verified.
3. Is the verification record still in place? If you removed the meta tag, file or DNS record after verifying, Yandex may drop ownership.
4. Wait, then ask again. A site added or verified recently often needs time before Yandex has any data for it.

While you wait

• Make sure your site is reachable and not blocking crawlers in robots.txt.
• Submit your sitemap, which helps Yandex find your pages; see submit a sitemap to Google, Bing and Yandex.
• Use Google and Bing in the meantime: both are independent of Yandex's loading.

When data arrives

yandex_site_summary shows pages in search, excluded pages, the site quality index and the problems Yandex reports by severity. yandex_search_queries lists popular queries with impressions, clicks and average positions, from the limited history that Yandex keeps.
