MCP server not connecting in Claude or another assistant

The connector shows an error, the sign-in never finishes, or the tools do not appear. Work through these checks in order.

1. Check the URL

The address must be exactly the one below, with https, no trailing slash and no extra path. A missing /mcp, a typo, or the old address from before mowteng moved to mowteng.app are the most common slips.

https://mowteng.app/mcp

Your account page has a button that copies it.

2. Check that your assistant supports it

mowteng is a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in. Any client that supports that should work, but a client that only starts local servers will not. Some assistants also hide custom connectors until you switch something on. ChatGPT needs developer mode (the missing option), and Gemini currently offers custom apps in English, to adults in the US with a personal account and Keep Activity on. The integrations pages show the exact steps per assistant.

3. Match the message to the cause

What you seeCause and fix
"mowteng needs access to Google Search Console"The Search Console permission was unticked. Connect again and leave it ticked. See the permission error.
"Please verify your Google account's email address, then connect again."Google reports the email as unverified. Verify it in your Google account, then connect again.
An active subscription is neededThe trial or subscription ended, or is paused. The account page shows the state; see trial, subscription and billing.
Google asks you to connect again, or tools suddenly fail after workingGoogle access was revoked, for example from your Google account's permissions page, or you used Disconnect on the account page. Connect again.
Connected, but no propertiesMost likely a different Google account. See no properties showing.

If a payment fails, the tools keep working and answer with a note to update the payment method on the account page. That is a reminder, not an outage.

4. Remove it and add it again

  1. Delete the mowteng connector from your assistant.
  2. Add it again with the URL above, or use one of the one-click shortcuts on the account page.
  3. Finish the Google sign-in, leaving the Search Console permission ticked.
  4. Start a new conversation, so the assistant loads the tool list fresh.
Ask your assistant

Which mowteng sources are connected, and what is my subscription state?

That question runs the mowteng_sources tool, which also returns a link, valid for 15 minutes, to the account page. If even this fails, the connection itself is broken: go back to step 1. A step-by-step setup for each assistant is in connect mowteng to your assistant.
