Where the time goes
The problems repeat from client to client. Monthly reports need the same numbers pulled for each property. A client asks why traffic dropped, and you need to know which pages and queries lost clicks before the call. A redesign or migration leaves URLs out of Google's index and nobody notices for weeks. In the Search Console web interface every one of these means switching property, setting the date range and exporting again.
See the properties you can access
mowteng reads Search Console with the Google account you sign in with. gsc_list_sites returns the properties that account can access and your permission level on each, so you can see where you are an owner and where you have restricted access. When a client adds that Google account as a user on their property in Search Console, the property appears in the list. If properties you expect are missing, you may have signed in with a different Google account; see no properties showing.
Bing and Yandex are optional. Connect your Bing Webmaster Tools and Yandex Webmaster accounts on the account page, and the sites in those accounts become available too.
List my Search Console properties with my permission level on each. For every property where I am an owner, show clicks and impressions for the last 28 days.
Client questions, answered with data
- "Why did traffic drop?"
insights_content_decaylists the pages that lost the most clicks, the last N days against the N days before. See content decay. - "How was this month?"
insights_compare_periodscompares any two date ranges by query, page, country or device. See compare date ranges. - "Did the migration break indexing?"
insights_index_auditinspects the URLs in a sitemap or a list and reports which ones Google has not indexed. It uses the URL Inspection quota of 2,000 per property per day and pages through long lists. See the index coverage audit. - "Are two of our pages competing?"
insights_cannibalizationfinds queries where two or more pages each take at least 10% of impressions. - "How do we do in Bing?"
insights_google_vs_bingshows position gaps and queries that appear in only one engine, once Bing is connected.
For example.com, compare last month with the month before by page. List the ten pages with the biggest change in clicks and say whether impressions, CTR or position moved.
Write the report in the assistant
Once the numbers are in the conversation, ask the assistant to write the summary in the structure you use for every client: totals, wins, losses and next steps. The reporting prompts give a starting set of questions for weekly and monthly reports.
What happens to client data
Search data is fetched live for each request and never stored, and neither are reports or URL lists. mowteng stores your Google account ID and email, encrypted refresh tokens for the sources you connect, the subscription status and a keyed hash of each site's host name, never the host name itself. Write actions such as adding a property, submitting or removing a sitemap and submitting URLs are marked as such, so assistants ask before running them. mowteng never edits a site's pages.
