What are rich results in Google Search?

What rich results are, how structured data makes a page eligible, and where to check yours.

Definition

A rich result is a Google search listing that shows more than the usual title, URL and description. It can add star ratings, prices, images, cooking times or event dates. Google builds these from structured data on the page, usually schema.org markup written as JSON-LD.

Why it matters

A listing with extra detail takes more room and gives people a reason to click, which can raise your click-through rate at the same position. Markup only makes a page eligible. Google decides whether to show the feature, and it depends on the query and the page.

Typical types include product, review snippet, recipe, event, video and breadcrumb. Google changes which types it supports, so check its structured data documentation before you add markup.

Where to see them

  • Google's Rich Results Test: paste a URL or code and see which features the markup qualifies for.
  • URL Inspection: shows the structured data Google found on one page.
  • Enhancement reports: Search Console lists valid pages and errors per markup type once Google finds that type on your site.
  • Performance report: filter by search appearance to see clicks and impressions for results that show a rich feature.
