Definition
IndexNow is a protocol for telling participating search engines about added, updated or deleted URLs. You submit the affected URLs rather than waiting for a crawler to discover the change through links or a sitemap. Google does not participate in IndexNow.
How the key file works
Your site must host a text file containing only your IndexNow key. The key lets participating engines verify that you control the host you are submitting for. It is not a search-engine account password, and submitting URLs does not require a Bing or Yandex account.
Follow the IndexNow setup guide to publish the file and check that it can be fetched. Keep submitted URLs on the verified host and use their full canonical form.
What submission tells you
A successful submission means the notification was accepted, not that the URL is indexed or ranking. Engines still decide whether and when to crawl, index or remove it. Check redirects, access rules and noindex directives if an updated page remains absent.
Use Bing Webmaster Tools or Yandex Webmaster to investigate those engines' indexing information. Search Console's URL Inspection describes Google's index state; it cannot confirm that an IndexNow submission worked. See requesting indexing for the different routes.
Ask mowteng to submit changes
mowteng's IndexNow tool sends added or changed URLs to participating engines in one call, including Bing and Yandex. The site must already host the key file. Submission is a write action, so the assistant asks before running it. The IndexNow MCP page explains this workflow.
Prepare an IndexNow submission for these changed URLs using my hosted key file. Show the URLs and ask for my confirmation before submitting.
