SEO for app landing pages

An app's website is often a handful of pages: a landing page, support, privacy and maybe a blog. Here is what to check in Search Console for a site like that.

What app sites get wrong

Most search traffic to an app site comes from people typing the app's name. That hides whether any non-brand query brings visitors at all. Localized landing pages may not be indexed, or Google shows the English page in every country. A redesign goes live and nobody checks whether Google recrawled it. Web search is also a separate system from store search: mowteng reads web search data from Google, Bing and Yandex, not App Store or Google Play search.

Brand and non-brand queries

gsc_search_analytics returns clicks, impressions, CTR and average position grouped by query, page, country, device, date or search appearance. Ask the assistant to split the queries that contain your app's name from the rest. The non-brand list shows which problems people search for when they do not know your app yet, and insights_striking_distance shows which of those queries sit just below page one.

Ask your assistant

Show my landing page's queries for the last 90 days, split into ones that contain the app name and ones that do not. Sort the non-brand ones by impressions.

Countries, languages and devices

Group the same data by country to see whether a localized page gets impressions where you expect it, and by device to compare mobile with desktop. If a country shows impressions but almost no clicks, inspect the localized URL with gsc_inspect_url to see whether Google indexed it and which canonical it chose. If you target markets where Bing or Yandex matter, connect them on the account page and ask the same questions there; see prompts for Bing and Yandex.

Ask your assistant

Break down clicks and impressions for my site by country and device for the last 28 days. Which countries have impressions but a CTR under 1%?

After a launch or redesign

Use gsc_inspect_url on the landing page to see the index status and the last crawl date. If you changed URLs, resubmit the sitemap with gsc_submit_sitemap, and send the changed URLs to Bing, Yandex and the other IndexNow engines with indexnow_submit. The guides to submitting a sitemap and requesting indexing cover each engine.

Ask from your editor

If the site lives in the same repository as the app, add mowteng to Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or Codex and ask about search data while you edit the page. You add one URL and sign in with Google; there is no API key or Google Cloud project to set up.

Price
