# SEO suite estimates vs your own console data

SEO suites and search consoles answer different questions. One estimates the whole market, the other reports what really happened on your site.

## Two kinds of data

**SEO suites** such as Ahrefs and Semrush crawl the web and build their own keyword and backlink databases. They estimate traffic and rankings for any site, including your competitors. **Search consoles** (Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Yandex Webmaster) report what the search engine itself recorded for sites you have verified: real clicks, impressions, average position and index status.

## Use suite data when

- You research new keywords, their volume and difficulty.

- You study competitors or build links.

- You need numbers for a site you do not own.

## Use your console data when

- You want to know what really happened: which pages lost clicks, which queries are close to page one.

- You need to check indexing, sitemaps or crawl problems.

- You want to act: submit a sitemap, send changed URLs to [IndexNow](https://mowteng.app/indexnow-mcp).

Some suites can show your own Search Console data too, once you connect Search Console inside the suite; Ahrefs' MCP has a Search Console tool group for such projects. That data then reaches you through the suite, and it covers Google only.
