# mowteng vs mcp-gsc

mcp-gsc is the best-known open-source Search Console MCP server. Here is how it differs from mowteng, and when it is the better pick.

## In short

mcp-gsc, by Amin Foroutan, is a free, open-source Python server that you run on your own computer with your own Google Cloud credentials, and it covers Google Search Console. mowteng is a hosted server: one URL and a Google sign-in, with Bing, Yandex and IndexNow added. If you want free and local, mcp-gsc is a good choice; if you want no setup and more than Google, mowteng is.

## Where mowteng leads

| | mowteng | mcp-gsc |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where it runs | Hosted. You add `https://mowteng.app/mcp`; it works in web, desktop and mobile assistants that support remote MCP. | On your machine (stdio) by default, or on your own server. Its README says it works in the Claude Desktop app, not in claude.ai in the browser. |
| Setup | Add the URL and sign in with Google. No Google Cloud project, API key or service account. Bing and Yandex connect with their own sign-in. | Create a Google Cloud project, enable the Search Console API, create an OAuth desktop client or a service account, then run it with uv (Python 3.11 or later). |
| Engines | Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Yandex Webmaster and IndexNow. | Google Search Console only. |
| Assistants | Setup pages for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and Windsurf. | Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Antigravity and other MCP clients that run local servers. |

## Why choose mowteng over mcp-gsc

- No Google Cloud project, OAuth client or service account: add one URL and sign in with Google.

- Works in assistants on the web and on your phone, such as claude.ai and ChatGPT, not only in desktop apps.

- Bing Webmaster Tools, Yandex Webmaster and [IndexNow](https://mowteng.app/indexnow-mcp) next to Google, behind the same URL, with a [Google vs Bing](https://mowteng.app/analyses/google-vs-bing-rankings) analysis.

- Can act, not only read: submit sitemaps to Google, Bing and Yandex and send changed URLs to IndexNow, with your assistant asking before each write.

- Nothing to install, update or keep running.

## When mcp-gsc may suit you better

- It is free and open source, so you can read and change the code.

- Your data goes straight from your computer to Google, and your credentials never leave it.

- It inspects URLs in batches and has a large community (about 2,100 GitHub stars).

- You already have a Google Cloud project and are happy running a local process.

## The hosted version from the same author

The mcp-gsc README also points to a hosted service, [Advanced GSC MCP](https://www.advancedgsc.com/mcp). On 5 November 2026 its page listed plans from $15 a month, read-only access to Search Console and Google Analytics, and extra SERP and keyword tools. Bing Webmaster Tools, Yandex Webmaster and IndexNow were not listed.

> **Ask your assistant:** List my Search Console properties, then show the pages on the busiest one that lost the most clicks in the last 28 days.
